The Fault in Our Stars 2

After Augustus had died, Hazel didn’t really talk to anyone anymore. She barely spoke to her parents, and when she did, it was about what was for dinner. She didn’t talk to her friends, and never saw Isaac. All she did was use her laptop and read through her and Augustus’s old messages. She could still hear his voice, and she pretended that he was still there with her. She knew that he was never coming back though. As she was sitting in bed one day, there was a knock at the door. As usual, Hazel didn’t answer. Her father did. When the man at the door said who he was and who he was looking for, Hazel’s father went to her room and got Hazel. Her father said that there was “some Peter guy at the door.” Hazel already knew who he was talking about. She went to the door with a frown on her face (as usual). Peter Van Houten was there waiting for her holding an envelope. She didn’t know what it was, or who it was for. When Peter said “Hello”, Hazel just stared at him with tears in her eyes. He could see that, so he handed her the envelope and walked away. She took the envelope and ran back to her room. She didn’t know what to think of Peter Van Houten anymore. She hated him at first, when she went all the way to Amsterdam and he didn’t answer any of her questions in an understandable way. Then, when he showed up at Augustus’s funeral, she kind of liked him. But she couldn’t just forgive him for what he did. She decided not to open the letter yet. Time went by, and about a week later her lungs filled up with liquid again and she was in the ICU. Again. She spent four days there. When she got home from the hospital, she forgot about the letter and just slept a lot. She had very vivid dreams though. All about Augustus. The time they were in Amsterdam. When they first met. When Augustus invited Hazel over to help Isaac. When they egged Monica’s car. When Augustus needed help. When Augustus told Hazel that they were going to meet Peter Van Houten. Augustus’ funeral. That was the worst. She hated thinking about it. When she was awake, it was only for about ten to twenty minutes. She kept having the same dreams over and over. After nine days of sleeping a lot, Hazel woke up and stayed awake for more than twenty one minutes. Her parents were happy. When she started moving, Hazel remembered the letter. She still decided not to read it, but in a few days she would. Hazel went to watch ANTM (America’s Next Top Model) in the living room. While she watched, she ate soup. She thought that the show would make her happier when Brittany won, but it didn’t. So she watched another show “The Fosters” and it made her a little happier. She watched “The Fosters” the whole day and she decided to go to bed at one in the morning. She laid in bed thinking about what Peter Van Houten put in the envelope. She read the clock. 2:49. Wow. She thought only ten minutes had gone by. She suddenly felt really tired and went to sleep. When she woke up the next morning at 10:52 she went to the kitchen to make some waffles. Her parents came in and said that they needed to talk to her. She just stared at them. They started to talk about her being depressed again. She said to them, “Please stop accusing me of being depressed. I do miss Augustus, and I just need time to recover. I’ll start talking to people when I feel okay enough to. Okay?” Her parents nodded their heads. Hazel gave both of her parents a hug and went to her room. She opened the envelope. The first thing she saw, was money. She counted it. It was one thousand dollars. She didn’t know what she could use it for. She noticed that there was something large in the envelope. It was rectangular. She didn’t want to open that yet. There were a lot of papers, from two different people: Augustus and Peter. She decided to read Peter’s letter first. His letter was basically saying that he was sorry for the way he acted when they first came to Amsterdam, but it also explained what they rectangular thing was. It was a book, a sequel. To An Imperial Affliction. Hazel was overjoyed. She unwrapped the book and saw the cover. She opened the book to the first page, but then remembered about Augustus’ letter. She started reading it and she realized what it was. It was the sequel to An Imperial Affliction that he said he would write. She was happier than when she got the actual sequel to the book. She started reading it, and finished it. It was wonderful. She started reading Peter’s version, and the way that she reads fast, she finished it in twenty minutes. She found out what happened to Anna, the Dutch Tulip Man, and Anna’s mom. She felt weird, but she thought it was only excitement. But when she did find out what it was, it was too late, and she fell out of her chair, to the ground. She realized that her lungs had filled up with liquid again. Her parents weren’t home and she couldn’t reach her phone. She couldn’t get up. The clock read 11:24. Where were her parents? They went out at 6:00. She had to just lie on the ground until her parents came home. She knew that her parents had to be home soon or she would die. Then, she fell asleep. She woke up to the sound of a phone ringing. She couldn’t do anything about it. But when the message played, she was terrified. There was an accident, involving her parents. Her dad had died instantly, though her mom survived, but was in critical condition. The voice on the other line said that they were sending people to get her. She didn’t know what to do. The front and back doors were locked, so they couldn’t get in. They were also her only chance of living. She decided to use all of her energy, no matter how painful it was, to crawl to the door and open it. The people that were supposed to pick her up got there two minutes later. They saw that there was something wrong with her and called an ambulance. When they arrived, they got her into the truck quickly. When they got to the hospital, there was news that her mom had passed. Hazel heard and just lied in the hospital bed in shock. Hazel couldn’t talk to the doctors, but they already knew her and knew what was wrong. When they started to look at her lung, they saw that both filled up with liquid and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. Hazel understood. She knew that she was going to die sometime, and this was it. She was happy that she got to read the sequels to An Imperial Affliction. She had some time left, so the doctors sent in Isaac. They talked for a few minutes but the doctor came in and said that Isaac had to go. They hugged one last time and they exchanged kisses on their cheeks. Then, Hazel smiled at Isaac, and closed her eyes. She heard Isaac close the door behind him and leave, and then, nothing else.
